Sophomores and above: Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year opened December 1, 2019 and will close February 14, 2020. SWE provides one application for sophomores through graduate students and one application for freshmen. Applicants complete an application and are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Applications will be available for the 2019-2020 academic year: Sophomores through Graduate Students Application: December 1, 2019 - February 14, 2020 Reference letters due by February 21, 2020 Freshmen Application: March 1, 2020 - May 1, 2020 Reference letters due by May 8, 2020 Note all deadlines are 5:00 p.m. central time (GMT-5). There will be no exceptions to the deadlines. __________ Scholarships are typically awarded in May (sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students) and July (freshmen students) for use during the upcoming academic year. Scholarship payments are made in September. Recipients are also announced in September. A few main eligibility points: Only candidates who identify as a female/woman. Undergraduate/community college applicants must be planning to study an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year. Masters and PhD candidates must be enrolled or accepted at a school with ABET-accredited programs in engineering, computing, or technology. You must be planning to attend full time (exceptions are made for reentry and non-traditional applicants). You must not be fully funded for tuition, fees, and books or equivalent. Transcripts must be in English. See below for more details. Accredited programs are based on ABET accreditation for colleges and universities in the U.S and internationally. The list of SWE-approved programs is the same list as the ABET-accredited programs in engineering (EAC), computing (CAC), and technology (TAC). Visit abet.org for more information. SWE's Scholarship Program is open to both SWE members and non-members; however, some of the scholarships do require SWE membership. Read about the benefits of SWE membership . __________ Reentry/Non-Traditional Scholarships The reentry scholarships were established to assist those who identify as a female/woman in obtaining the credentials necessary to reenter the workforce as engineers. These scholarships apply to: Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study Students who have been out of the engineering or technology workforce for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study Full or part time students Students entering any year of engineering school, including graduate school The non-traditional scholarships were established to assist those who identify as a female/woman to return to school to obtain an engineering degree. These scholarships apply to: Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study Full or part time students Students entering any year of engineering school, including graduate school There is no minimum GPA requirement for students entering their first year as a reentry or non-traditional student. Please apply for a freshman or upperclass scholarship based on your class level in the fall semester. Within the scholarship application is an option to choose reentry. __________ Transcripts The Society of Women Engineers requires that all transcripts be submitted in English. Please be advised that the translation process of international scholarships can take several weeks. Below is some additional information for students, but please be advised that SWE will not verify that translations are valid. Please be aware that there is a difference between evaluation and translation services : Translation services provide a direct translation of the content to English. They make no interpretation of your education. This direct, certified translation is the requirement for applicants to the SWE Scholarship program. Evaluation services, such as World Education Services (WES) and the Center for Educational Documentation (CED), analyze your academic records and are designed to provide an evaluation or compare your education to the U.S. system. You are welcome to provide an evaluation in addition to your official translation provided by a separate organization. However, a WES evaluation is not accepted as an official transcript. If your university does not provide your transcript in English, you should contact your embassy/consulate to determine if they provide translation of academic transcripts and records: U.S. Department of State - List of Embassies: http://www.usembassy.gov/ If this is not an option, you will need to use a professional translation service.
